India and Nepal formally launched a peer-to-peer (P2P) cross-border remittance mechanism on June 6, 2026, by integrating India's Unified Payments Interface (UPI) with Nepal's National Payments Interface (NPI). The system was operationalised by NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL) and Nepal Clearing House Limited (NCHL), enabling instant, real-time fund transfers via mobile banking apps and digital wallets.
