Patel was elected as a Judge of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) for the 2026-2035 term, during the 36th Conference of States Parties to UNCLOS in New York (June 15-19). EAM Dr. S. Jaishankar congratulated him and thanked UNCLOS member states for their support. Patel currently serves as Vice Chancellor of Rashtriya Raksha University (Gujarat) and is a member of the International Law Commission.
