India scripted history at the 56th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) 2026 in Bucaramanga, Colombia (July 5-12), winning all five gold medals and achieving a Joint World No.1 rank alongside China, Kazakhstan, Russia, South Korea, and Taiwan. The five gold medallists: Kanishk Jain (Pune, Maharashtra — to join MIT), Riddhesh Anant Bendale (Indore, MP — IIT Delhi), Rishit Garg (New Delhi — IIT Bombay), Shresth Suraiya (Mumbai, Maharashtra), and Svarit Joshi (Ahmedabad, Gujarat — Class 11 student, youngest). Four of five are from Allen Career Institute, Kota. 381 students from 87 countries participated. India's team is trained by HBCSE (Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education) under TIFR.
