Nepal Rastra Bank Permits ₹200 and ₹500 Indian Currency Notes Across India-Nepal Border — Easing Cross-Border Transactions

Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) issued a new directive permitting Indian and Nepalese citizens to carry Indian currency notes of ₹200 and ₹500 denominations across the India-Nepal border. Previously, only notes up to ₹100 were permitted (as the ₹200 note was introduced in 2017 and ₹500 new note post-2016 demonetisation were newer additions). India and Nepal share an open border under the Treaty of Peace and Friendship (1950). Indian Rupee is widely accepted in Nepal. This move will ease cross-border transactions for families, traders and pilgrims at the world's busiest open international land border.
