Brigadier (Retired) Basant Kumar Ponwar, the founder and former commandant of the Counter Terrorism and Jungle Warfare College (CTJWC) in Kanker, Chhattisgarh, passed away at the age of 77 in Mhow, Madhya Pradesh. Known as India's foremost expert on jungle warfare and counter-insurgency, Brigadier Ponwar was instrumental in establishing the CTJWC — the premier institution that has trained thousands of soldiers and paramilitary personnel in jungle warfare, counter-terrorism tactics, and anti-Maoist operations. The College has trained forces from 20+ countries. He was also a distinguished veteran of the Indian Army.
