Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) ने 30 July 2026 को announce किया कि India अपने GDP calculation में Wholesale Price Index (WPI) को Output Producer Price Index (PPI) से replace करेगी। PPI international best practice है (IMF guidelines) और GDP deflation के लिए WPI से अधिक accurate है। PPI में केवल domestically produced goods की prices track होती हैं — import prices exclude होती हैं। WPI में import और export दोनों शामिल हैं। India GDP calculation में पहले से GDP deflator में WPI का partial use था — अब full PPI adoption होगी। यह India's National Statistical System की credibility को globally improve करेगा।
