Skyroot Aerospace's Vikram-1 Successfully Places Payloads in Orbit — India Becomes 3rd Country with Private Orbital Launch Capability

Skyroot Aerospace made history on July 18, 2026 with the successful launch of Vikram-1 under Mission Aagaman ('the arrival' in Sanskrit) from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota. The 22-metre, three-stage rocket (three solid-fuel stages plus a liquid-fuelled Orbital Adjustment Module) deployed customer payloads into a 450 km low-Earth orbit. Vikram-1's all-carbon composite structure makes it India's first carbon-composite orbital launch vehicle. PM Modi said it would 'encourage countless youngsters to dream bigger and innovate fearlessly.' Skyroot's mission post on X: 'Hello space, we have arrived!' India became the third country to achieve orbital launch capability through private enterprise, after the USA (SpaceX) and New Zealand (RocketLab).
