Indian Army JAG Entry 125th Course (April 2027) — 10 Posts | Law Graduates, Apply 17 July – 17 August
The Indian Army has released the official notification for the Judge Advocate General (JAG) Entry Scheme, 125th Course (commencing April 2027), inviting online applications from unmarried male and female law graduates for 10 combined vacancies (men and women together) for Short Service Commission (SSC) as legal officers in the JAG Branch -- the legal wing of the Indian Army that handles matters of military law under the Army Act and Army Rules. Online applications are open from 17 July 2026, 3:00 PM to 17 August 2026, 3:00 PM, exclusively via joinindianarmy.nic.in -- no offline applications are accepted. Eligibility: LLB degree with minimum 55% aggregate marks (either a 3-year professional course after graduation, or a 5-year integrated course after 10+2), PLUS a valid CLAT PG 2026 score (the exam conducted in December 2025) -- this is mandatory for all candidates, including LLM-qualified and LLM-appearing candidates, and no other CLAT PG year's score is accepted. Candidates must also be registered (or eligible for registration) as an advocate with the Bar Council of India or a State Bar Council -- this Bar Council registration requirement is easy to miss and is a genuine additional condition beyond just holding the LLB degree. Only unmarried male and unmarried female candidates are eligible. Age must be 21-27 years as on 1 January 2027. This is one of the few Indian Army officer entries with NO separate written exam conducted by the Army itself -- shortlisting for the SSB interview is done directly using the candidate's CLAT PG 2026 score (expected in the second week of September 2026), an exam most law graduates take anyway for LLM admission. Selection proceeds: CLAT PG score-based shortlisting -> 5-day SSB Interview -> Medical Examination -> Document Verification -> Final Merit List. There is no application fee for any category. Selected candidates undergo 49 weeks of pre-commission training at the Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai, starting April 2027, receiving a training stipend of Rs 56,100/month, and are awarded a Post Graduate Diploma in Defence Management and Strategic Studies from the University of Madras upon completion. On commissioning as Lieutenant, pay is Level-10 (Rs 56,100-Rs 1,77,500) plus allowances, with an approximate starting CTC of Rs 17-18 lakh per annum. The SSC is for an initial period of 10 years, extendable by up to 4 years (maximum engagement 14 years), with a Permanent Commission possible after 10 years based on eligibility and service requirements.
