Eligibility Criteria
Medical Standards
CORRECTED: Technician Grade I Signal requires medical standard B-1 (an earlier reported figure of 'A-3' for this post could not be confirmed against the official CEN and appears to have been inaccurate). Grade III positions require visual/medical standards such as A-3, B-1, or B-2 depending on the specific mechanical trade, per Annexure A (Post-wise Parameters). Refer to Chapter 5 of the Indian Railway Medical Manual (IRMM) Vol. I for full standards.
Single RRB Option Rule (per Pay Level)
CLARIFIED: a candidate may apply to only one RRB per pay level (i.e., one application for Level-5/Grade I Signal, and separately one application for Level-2/Grade III, each with its own fee and its own CBT). Submitting more than one application for the same pay level leads to disqualification and debarment from future RRB/RRC exams.
Age Limit (Post-wise)
CONFIRMED against the official CEN: Technician Grade I Signal 18–33 years; Technician Grade III 18–30 years, both reckoned as on 01 July 2026. Age relaxation for reserved categories applies as per Government of India/RRB rules; SC/ST/OBC-NCL applicants applying against Unreserved (UR) vacancies get no age relaxation, and only a single relaxation applies (not cumulative).
Minimum Qualifying Marks (CBT)
UPDATED with category-wise breakdown: UR/EWS 40%, OBC-NCL 30%, SC 30%, ST 25%. PwBD candidates may get a 2-mark relaxation where there is a shortage of qualified candidates in that category.
Psycho/Aptitude Test (CBAT)
NOT applicable for Technician posts, unlike RRB ALP recruitment. Selection is based purely on the single-stage CBT score (per pay level), followed by Document Verification and Medical Examination. Final merit is purely CBT-mark based (no aptitude/typing/PET). Tie-break: older candidate ranks higher; if still tied, alphabetical order of name.
Shortlisting Ratio for Document Verification
NEW: shortlisting for Document Verification and Medical Examination is done RRB-wise at a ratio of 1:1 of vacancies for that RRB, based on CBT merit. Normalisation of marks is applied where the CBT is held across multiple shifts.
Educational Qualification
- Technician Grade I Signal: Requires a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) in Physics, Electronics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or Instrumentation, OR a 3-year Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech Degree in these core engineering streams.
- Technician Grade III: Requires a Matriculation / SSLC clearance plus an **ITI certificate** in relevant designated trades from recognized NCVT/SCVT institutions, OR a completed Act Apprenticeship qualification.
Age Limit
General Category: 18–33 years
- OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) Candidates: 3 years upper age limit extension.
- SC / ST Candidates: 5 years upper age limit extension.
- PwBD Candidates: 10 years base relaxation (cumulative with respective community benefits).
