HCF (Highest Common Factor) is the largest number dividing all given numbers exactly. LCM (Lowest Common Multiple) is the smallest number divisible by all given numbers.
Key relation: for two numbers a and b, HCF × LCM = a × b.
Find the HCF and LCM of 12 and 18.
12 = 2² × 3, 18 = 2 × 3². HCF = 2 × 3 = 6. LCM = 2² × 3² = 36. Check: 6 × 36 = 216 = 12 × 18 ✓
Simplify: 15 + 6 ÷ 2 × 3 − 4
Division/multiplication first, left to right: 6 ÷ 2 = 3, then 3 × 3 = 9. Now: 15 + 9 − 4 = 20.

Solving addition/subtraction before division/multiplication is the single biggest reason students lose marks here — always resolve ÷ and × first, strictly left to right.
