📝 Exam-style mock (exam time, rules, net speed)

SSC skill test speeds

These speeds are from recent SSC notices. The skill test is qualifying — marks aren't added, but you must pass it. Check the notice of your exam for any change.

PostTestRequired speed
CHSL — LDC / JSATyping test, 10 minutes, on computerEnglish 35 WPM (≈10,500 KDPH) or Hindi 30 WPM (≈9,000 KDPH)
CHSL — DEO / DEO Grade AData Entry Speed Test, 15 minutes8,000 key depressions per hour (English)
CGL — Tax Assistant (CBIC/CBDT)Data Entry Speed Test, 15 minutes8,000 key depressions per hour

How to reach 35 WPM

  1. Learn touch typing first (home row, all ten fingers) — speed comes later.
  2. Accuracy before speed: SSC counts mistakes, so 30 WPM with 98% accuracy beats 40 WPM with many errors.
  3. Take the full 10-minute test at least twice a week — the real SSC test is 10 minutes, and speed drops when you get tired.
  4. Do 2–3 shorter timed tests on other days and note your WPM; most people gain 5–10 WPM in a month of daily practice.
  5. Practise with the Govt passages — they read like the official test paragraphs.
